Halloween
Advice for children with Asthma
For some children with asthma and allergies, Halloween
festivities may worsen their condition.

By being aware and prepared of the likely triggers, you
can ensure a safe and enjoyable time over this weekend.
The Asthma Society of Ireland offers the following suggestions;
- Make sure your child's reliever (blue)
is available at all times.
- Keep your child at home if your child
is suffering from a cold or flu. Cold and flu symptoms
can severely aggravate your child's asthma.
- Make sure that new Halloween
costumes have been washed or if the costumes have been
stored, be aware they could contain dust and moulds.
- Be mindful of masks which may contain latex.
- If your child's asthma is triggered
by dampness or frosty conditions, be aware of the weather
forecast.
- Smoke from bonfires may act as an irritant and trigger an
asthma attack; as such it is advisable to avoid bonfires.
