Health Awareness Exhibition Cork

The Asthma Society of Ireland, Diabetes Federation of Ireland and the HSE Cardiovascular Public Health Nurses have teamed up to bring a Health Awareness Exhibition covering the areas of Asthma, Diabetes and Cardiovascular Health to the people of Munster. This will be the first such venture held between these organisations and will highlight chronic conditions which have a particularly high prevalence in Ireland. The exhibition will feature a large array of attractions and free health checks including   diabetes screening, HbA1c, blood pressure, BMI and eye checks, inhaler techniques, peak flow and spirometry checks, product promotions and kiddies attractions.

In addition, it will provide attendees the opportunity to put questions to health professionals on specific areas relating to asthma, diabetes and cardiovascular disease on what promises to be a very interactive and informative day.  It will feature hourly educational talks by relevant Specialist Consultants throughout the day and a range of workshops covering more specific aspects of these conditions. For the younger visitors there will be an array of fun attractions with face painters, clowns and free magic shows to entertain them through the day.

Dr Terry O'Connor, Consultant Respiratory Physician, Mercy Hospital, Cork said "more than 100,000  Irish people with asthma have poor asthma control, many because of incorrect inhaler technique. This is a great 'one-stop shop' opportunity for people with asthma to avail of high quality advice from the professionals to further enhance their quality of life".

Dr. Domhnall O'Halloran, Consultant Endocrinologist, Cork University Hospital, and also speaking on the day, said "the importance of this exhibition can be summed up by these Irish statistics. Every person is potentially at risk from diabetes and heart disease, anyone who has an interest in living a longer, healthier life should attend this Exhibition. It presents a great opportunity for everyone in the Munster area to get a free health check and avail of invaluable expert information on how to adopt healthier lifestyle habits".
