Colin
'Collie' Moran, was born on the 6 June 1980 was a inter
county Dublin Gaelic footballer and Dublin captain. Colin
was diagnosed with asthma in his early teens. Once he was
diagnosed, and as he played sport more competitively his
doctor gave him an asthma management plan. After
his doctor prescribed the right asthma medication and asthma
management plan, he didn't look back. In a recent
interview on TV3's Ireland AM, to promote World Asthma
Day Colin said "There is no need to suffer, see
your doctor, see your nurse and you can get your asthma
controlled, and you can play sport at the highest level".
Colin Moran was the captain of the 2006
Dublin side although he didn't make his return to Dublin's
side until the 16 July 2006 due to an injury. He returned
during the Leinster Senior Football Final in Croke Park
in time to deliver the winning speech as he collected the
Delaney Cup for Dublin for the 46th time; in place of stand-in
captain Bryan Cullen.
He made his senior inter county debut in October 1998.
Moran broke his leg in a 2004 challenge match against Limerick
in between two championship games. Moran was the winning
side for Leinster against Ulster in the 2005 Railway Cup
and repeated that feat against Connacht in 2006 in Canton,
Boston.
Colin Moran was named as the 2007 Dublin
senior football captain. He won the 2007 O'Byrne
Cup for Dublin against Laois at O'Connor Park in Offaly.
Moran has captained Dublin to victories over Meath, Offaly
and Laois. Colin was on Dublin's winning team for the 2008
O'Byrne Cup winning team which defeated Longford in the
final. Colin Moran retired on the 22nd of April 2009.
