Life without limits - Bernard McNamee , Cork

No Limits

As an infant my asthma was bad but I started to grow out of it in my teenage years. I was always active and swimming in particular really helped my lungs develop. At 10 years old, I learned to swim on an Asthma Society holiday in Gormanstown-that week in County Meath is one of my happiest childhood memories. I’m still keen on sport and I enjoy hill walking in Cork and Kerry and playing soccer at the local astro turf in Bishopstown. Like when I was a child, I believe keeping fit and active has to be the most fun and most effective way to help manage my asthma today.

At the end of this February, I will go to Scotland for a weeks training in Winter Mountaineering as my ambition is to climb Mont Blanc in the French Alps next year for my fortieth birthday.

"I went mountaineering in the Southern Alps with my old school friend, Don. On our first day, after crossing the valley glacier we stopped for rest, food, water and a photo. We spent the night on that rock under a clear sky of the brightest stars listening to the thunder of rock falls."
