Leaving a gift to The Asthma Society
of Ireland in your will is an excellent way to support
the vital work that we do. It allows planning for the future
by funding our core services such as the Asthma Helpline,
the development and distribution of independent patient
information, research into asthma and our Effecting Change
and awareness programmes.
Including the Asthma Society in your
will does not require you to draw up a new will; your solicitor
can make a simple addition or codicil stating the gift
you would like to leave to the Asthma Society.
Legacies to charity are exempt from tax.
So by leaving a gift to the Asthma Society you could reduce
the amount of tax payable on your estate.
There are three common types of legacies: |
A residuary legacy is the
gift of the residue of your estate or a share of the residue,
after other bequests to your family and friends have been
made and all debts, taxes and expenses have been paid.
A pecuniary legacy is a specified sum
of money, determined when the will or codicil is written.
A specific legacy is when a particular
item of value is bequeathed, this can include stocks and
shares, property, furniture or jewellery.
