Events & Awareness Days 2010

The Asthma Society of Ireland will hold and participate in the following events in 2010, helping to create asthma awareness throughout the country by providing a wide range of free information booklets and asthma nurses specialists at these events to answer medical questions.

Asthma Society Dundalk Asthma Information Day Sunday September 12th

The Asthma Society of Ireland will hold an Asthma Information Day in Dundalk, County Louth, Sunday September 12th in the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The event, which is the third regional Health Asthma Awareness day the Asthma Society of Ireland has hosted this year, will take place from 12 noon to 4pm. This event  will give asthma sufferers in the region the opportunity to speak directly with an asthma nurse on all aspects of their asthma management and symptoms.

Asthma nurses will be on hand at the event to speak with attendees about asthma in children, allergies, asthma management and inhaler technique, as well as peak flow monitoring and spirometry testing. There will also be a number of talks from guest speakers on asthma management and childhood asthma. The event have no admission fee and all services and information were provided completely free of charge. Asthma Society Limerick City Asthma Information Day Sunday November 14th

The Asthma Society of Ireland will hold an Asthma Information Day in Limerick City, County Limerick, Sunday November 14th in the Clarion Hotel, Steamboat Quay, Limerick. The event, which is the fourth regional Health Asthma Awareness day the Asthma Society of Ireland has hosted this year, will take place from 12 noon to 4pm. This event  will give asthma sufferers in the region the opportunity to speak directly with an asthma nurse on all aspects of their asthma management and symptoms.

Oxegen Music Festival Festival July 9th - July 11th

As part of the Asthma Society's "Essential Health Information for Asthma & Allergy Sufferers Attending Music Festivals Summer Campaign" the Asthma Society of Ireland's asthma nurse specialist  was be on hand at the Oxegen Festival to answer all asthma and allergy related health queries and also to support the medical staff in the Accident & Emergency field hospital.  For more allergy and asthma advice on attending outdoor festivals see our Outdoor Festival Guide.  For more information on the Oxegen Festival go to www.oxegen.ie

 

Asthma Society Wexford Asthma Information Day Sunday June 20th

The Asthma Society of Ireland held an Asthma Information Day in Wexford on the 20th of June. The event, which was very successful and widely attended took place in the Talbot Hotel  in Wexford Town from 12 noon to 4pm, giving asthma sufferers in the region the opportunity to speak directly with an asthma nurse on all aspects of their asthma management and symptoms.

Asthma nurses were on hand at the event to speak with attendees about asthma in children, allergies, asthma management and inhaler technique, as well as peak flow monitoring and spirometry testing. There were a number of talks from guest speakers on asthma management and childhood asthma. The event had no admission fee and all services and information were provided completely free of charge.

 

Bloom Garden Festival June 3rd - June 7th

The Asthma Society was delighted to be part of the Bloom Gardening Festival in the Phoenix Park in Dublin for the second year running in 2010, where we originally launched our "Gardening with Asthma & Allergies and Creating an Allergy Friendly Garden" Booklet. At Bloom 2010 we had our awareness stand where all asthma & allergy literature was available for festival goers and where the Asthma Society staff were on hand to give advice on how to create an asthma & allergy friendly garden.  For more information on the Bloom Festival go to www.bloominthepark.com

The Allergy Fair, RDS, May 28th - May 30th

The Asthma Society had an awareness stand at The Allergy Fair in the RDS. Our asthma nurse specialist was present all three days at our stand to answer all asthma and allergy related medical queries. A wide range of all the Asthma Society's publications were available at the stand and the Asthma Society staff were present to discuss the services provided by the Asthma Society.  For more information go to www.allergyfair.ie. World Asthma Day May 4th

World Asthma Day 2010 took place on Tuesday May 4th. The Asthma Society of Ireland organised a range of awareness and fundraising activities to mark World Asthma Day in 2010. Throughout May, the Asthma Society is asking the public to support their fundraising “Cupcakes for Asthma” campaign. People are encouraged to bake, buy or sell cupcakes to raise funds. Asthma Society host Asthma Information Day Sligo April 10th

The Asthma Society of Ireland held an Asthma Information Day in Sligo on 10th of April. The event, which took place in the Sligo Southern Hotel from 12 noon to 4pm, gave asthma sufferers in the region the opportunity to speak directly with an asthma nurse on all aspects of their asthma management and symptoms.

Asthma nurses were on hand at the event to speak with attendees about asthma in children, allergies, asthma management and inhaler technique, as well as peak flow monitoring and spirometry testing. There were talks from guest speakers on asthma management and childhood asthma. The event had no admission fee and all services and information were provided completely free of charge.

The event will also saw the launch of the "Angie Asthma" children’s book which was produced by students of Mercy College in Sligo as part of a series of books they developed entitled "Grow with a Grin". The book gives an important message to children with asthma that, through proper asthma management, they can have a happy, active childhood.
